Our process

Printed here, by a shop with 80 years at the press

Flint + Amber is printed by Flow-Eze, a family screen printing shop in Rockford, Illinois that has spent most of its history decorating bottles, jars and glassware for consumer brands. Your order runs on the same presses, by the same crew.

Where it started

A few pages from the Flow-Eze archive: family photos, the company at a trade show, and the shop floor in 2014.

Making the screen

Every design starts as a screen. Mesh is stretched to a measured tension, coated, and exposed with your artwork. Anything that should not print is blocked out by hand before the screen goes on press.

Matching color

Brand colors are matched against the Pantone book before a run, so the fiftieth piece matches the first.

On press

Round pieces print on cylinder presses that turn the glass under the screen, one stroke per color. Every shape gets its own fixture to hold it true. Large runs go on automated lines; the 2013 photos show one running bottles for a client.

The finished work

A satin etch stemless, a growler on its fixture, adhesion testing on tumblers, and work for a few of the brands we print for.
